Musical Connections

Starting this week on Wednesday 6th June at 1:30 pm at Tower Court

Musical Connections is a York charity which works to bring people together through a shared love of music. We welcome adults of all ages and abilities (most are over 65, although we have a few younger members), and no musical training is needed to get the most out of our weekly sessions which cover a wide range of music in sociable and relaxed settings

In partnership with York Medical Group, we are now setting up a new weekly singing group (structured around term-times) at Tower Court surgery for the benefit of older YMG patients (55+) who are vulnerable and at risk of social isolation.

The group will be run by a professional musician who will tailor the sessions to the needs and interests of the people who turn up; the views of our members are very important to us and we encourage people to suggest songs and contribute their own ideas, which, if necessary, we adapt, to make sure that the music is enjoyable for everyone. In addition, group members will be invited to have a go at new things, such as singing songs from other countries, participating in instrumental workshops with students from York University, and taking part in our intergenerational programme of projects and events with children and young people. These are hugely enjoyable occasions - the music breaks down the usual age-related and social stereotypes and provides a unique way for everyone, regardless of age and circumstances, to connect with each other.

Tower Court’s new singing group will be up and running by early June. It will take place on Wednesday afternoons (term-time only) at 1.30-2.45pm. A voluntary weekly donation of £3 per participant will be requested, and this will include tea/coffee
