Information regarding Controlled Drugs

From Monday 11th March, changes to the computer system mean that if you are prescribed a CONTROLLED DRUG (CD), painkillers like Zomorph® capsules, or Butrans® patches for example, these can now be sent ELECTRONICALLY like other medicines to your pharmacy.

If you don’t already have an EPS (elecetronic prescription service) pharmacy nomination – now is a great time to nominate.

INFORMATION FOR GABAPENTIN AND PREGABALIN PATIENTS - CHANGE IN LEGAL STATUS TO CONTROLLED DRUG (CD)

From 1 April 2019, gabapentin (brands include Lyrica) and Pregabalin (brands include Neurontin) will change their legal status to a CONTROLLED DRUG.

KEY POINTS:
• Pregabalin and gabapentin (in any form, capsules, tablets or liquid) will be classed as a CONTROLLED DRUG from 01 April 2019
• This means we can only issue up to ONE month’s supply at any one time
• Patients repeat prescripitions are currently being reviewed to ensure they comply with the law on this.
